OUR PARTNERS - Thrivent Financial For Lutherans

Thrivent Builds with San Diego Habitat for Humanity

In 2005, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has embarked on an unprecedented partnership with Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country. This year, Thrivent Financial has announced that they will increase their four-year commitment to $125 million. Of that amount, $23.2 million will be used in 2008 to build 322 Habitat homes in 42 states. Thrivent Financial is funding approximately $23.2 million, or 65 percent; Habitat affiliates need to raise nearly $9 million, or 25 percent; and local Thrivent chapters need to raise nearly $3.6 million, or 10 percent. This effort will take roughly 1.2 million volunteer hours from more than 144,000 volunteers.

In 2008, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and the local Lutheran community will sponsor a home at the Libby Lake Village site in Oceanside. Work on the home will begin in June 2008 and the family will get their keys in Winter 2008. Local churches and Thrivent Financial offices will work together to raise $28,000 and to contribute approximately 2000 hours of volunteer labor to make homeownership a reality for a local family.

We would like to thank all the churches that have already committed to working on the Libby Lake Village project, including: Grace Lutheran Church in Escondido, Mt Olive Lutheran Church in Poway, King of Kings Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Oceanside, San Marcos Lutheran Church, Christ the King Lutheran Church in Fallbrook, Tierra Santa Lutheran Church, Ramona Lutheran Church, Redeemer by the Sea Lutheran Church and Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Carlsbad and First Lutheran Church in Vista. Thrivent Builds 2007

‘We are happy because it is our dream to own our own house. It has been difficult living here; we are finally able to have a home where our children can feel safe.” ~ Jose Zuniga

In 2007, Thrivent's generous full-home sponsorship allowed SDHFH to build a home for Jose and Maria Zuniga and their children Jose, Alvaro and Maria. The Zuniga’s moved into their new home in Escondido last November. A huge thank you to local congregations including: Grace Lutheran Church in Escondido, Lutheran Church of the Incarnation in Poway, King of Kings Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Oceanside, San Marcos Lutheran Church, Christ the King Lutheran Church in Fallbrook, Tierra Santa Lutheran Church, Ramona Lutheran Church, Redeemer by the Sea Lutheran Church and Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Carlsbad, and First Lutheran Church in Vista for providing the labor and fundraising (they raised more than their $32,000 goal!) to make this project a reality.
