Nationally recognized band, Switchfoot returns to hometown of San Diego to volunteer on the Orangewood Habitat for Humanity Project in Escondido, CA

San Diego, CA. – San Diego’s own Switchfoot will be rocking with instruments of a different kind as they help build homes with San Diego Habitat for Humanity on September 28th in their hometown.

The build helps kick off the band’s “Appetite for Construction” tour, a 30-city tour that also will help people in need of safe, decent, affordable housing realize the dream of homeownership. Switchfoot is teaming up with their good friends from Ohio, Relient K, to donate $1 from each ticket sold to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

AMN Healthcare contributes $2,500 to Habitat for Humanity Women Build and holds employee volunteer build day on Friday, July 6th.

San Diego - AMN Healthcare has partnered with San Diego Habitat for Humanity for a build day set for July 6, 2007 at the Escondido Habitat for Humanity build site known as Orangewood. Among the company employees to volunteer and donate their time to build shelter for local families in need is Susan Nowakowski, President and Chief Executive Officer of AMN Healthcare. Nowakowski has been involved with Habitat in the past, and is the first recipient of the 2006 San Diego Habitat for Humanity “Groundbreaking Award” presented at Habitat’s annual signature event, “Hats Off to Women.”

Thrivent Builds Mobile part of $105 million alliance with Habitat for Humanity - February 17 & 18, 2007

San Diego, CA - Substandard housing—with its corresponding sights, sounds and feel—will soon be rolling into North County. Literally. Thanks to a one-of-a-kind mobile exhibit sponsored by Habitat for Humanity International and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, visitors to the “Thrivent Builds Mobile” will experience the sights, sounds and feel of substandard housing as well as what they can do to address this issue. The exhibit, which will visit more than 15 states this year, is designed to rally thousands of individuals and organizations to advocate, donate, and participate in Habitat’s effort to build safe, decent, affordable housing.

20 Marine volunteers help get Habitat project back on schedule - February 2, 2007

PAUMA VALLEY ---- One year later, memories of that horrible Sunday morning remain so immediate. Hortensia Garcia and Carmen Ortega recall the panic, the rush to corral their many children into the family vans, smoke so black and thick that to drive was impossible, everywhere the flames, consuming the scrubby hills where they lived near Valley Center and searing the paint of the vans to which they fled.

Inside one van, Ortega's family huddled, windows tightly shut, as an orange and black hell encircled them.
