Building homes with God's people in need
Make our vision of affordable housing a reality!
We invite volunteers from all walks of life to come together and help eliminate poverty housing in San Diego. Volunteers are welcome on construction sites, and always at the Restore, Administrative Office, and Newsletter and Event Committees!
Construction volunteers help construct the home from beginning to end. They do everything from concrete work for the foundation, framing the walls, hanging drywall to painting, installing cabinets and landscaping! No experience is necessary, since our crew leaders are willing to teach anyone interested in learning. This is a fantastic way to learn new skills while helping people and the community. There are building opportunities both during the week and on Saturdays. To get involved, please call our volunteer coordinators Don Kaiser at 619-283-4663, ext. 311 and Allen Wampach at ext. 302, or email volunteer@habitatsdiego.org
The ReStore is in need of a multitude of tasks from everyday activities, cleanup projects, coordinating special improvement projects, organization and placement of materials and help with marketing. Please call 619-516-5267 for more information.
The Newsletter Committee is responsible for attending events, writing news articles, taking photographs and researching information to add to the quarterly Newsletter, The Quarter Inch Report. To get involved, please contact Elizabeth Neubrand 619-283-4663, ext. 317 or email elizabethn@sdhfh.org.
The Event Committee is part of the planning process for our fundraising events. We need ideas and input for planning, obtaining silent auction items, graphic design, and basically your time and talent! To get involved, please contact Elizabeth Neubrand 619-283-4663, ext. 317 or email elizabethn@sdhfh.org.
Youth groups are also important partners of Habitat. Youth groups are encouraged to volunteer; however, certain policies must be adhered to comply with legal and insurance requirements. See our Youth
Policy for more information.
Cheryl
Keenan and Elizabeth Neubrand meet President Jimmy Carter at
the Jimmy Carter Work Project in Los Angeles. Habitat’s Jimmy
Carter Work Project is an annual, internationally-recognized
week where the former U.S. President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate,
along with his wife, Rosalynn, join thousands of volunteers
to build and renovate simple, decent and affordable housing
in partnership with low-income families. The annual Jimmy Carter
Work Project has been held across the United States in places
such as San Diego, Philadelphia, Miami, New York City, and Detroit.
It has also been held internationally in South Africa, Mexico
and India.
Whether volunteering
individually or as a group, the experience is fulfilling, educational
and fun. We couldn't do it without you! |
