San Diego Habitat for Humanity Launches Firestorm Disaster Rebuild Fund

Donations are currently being accepted for the Firestorm Disaster Rebuild Fund at the SDHFH office located at 10222 San Diego Mission Road, San Diego 92108 or by calling 619-283-HOME or by clicking Donate Now button at the bottom of the page and designating “Firestorm Disaster Rebuild Fund”.

SDHFH rebuilt 21 homes for the victims of the 2003 Wildfires and offered discounted building materials to hundreds of families who lost their homes in the fires from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. SDHFH is here to help in rebuilding efforts once again. While immediate needs are being addressed by local, state and federal government organizations, as well as a number of relief organizations, Habitat for Humanity recognizes the call for long-term solutions to the housing needs of families who have been affected and displaced by natural disasters.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to those in our community affected by the fires,” said Cheryl Keenan, Executive Director of San Diego Habitat for Humanity. “Habitat for Humanity understands that when a disaster strikes, the best people to help, initially, are the first responders who are trained in disaster relief. We are taking immediate action with the launch of our Firestorm Disaster Rebuild Fund and will follow through clean- up and rebuilding efforts”.

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore located at 10222 San Diego Mission Road is offering an additional 20% discount on already discounted building materials to families rebuilding. Please bring your FEMA card with you.

For corporate donations and build opportunities please contact Elizabeth Neubrand at elizabethn@sdhfh.org or 619-283-4663 ext. 317.

For volunteer opportunities please contact Carolyn Bollman at carolynb@sdhfh.org or call 619-283-HOME ext. 316.

For families displaced by the fires, Habitat for Humanity will be holding orientations for families who lost their home in the fire. Please check back soon for dates and locations or contact Shayna Hensley at shaynah@sdhfh.org or 619-283-4663 ext. 314.

San Diego Habitat for Humanity plans to re-build homes and designate families for existing Habitat for Humanity projects for those who have suffered losses by the recent fires who meet program requirements to become Habitat partner families. The effort will serve those who were uninsured or substantially underinsured and who are having difficulty obtaining the necessary financing to rebuild.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO INCUBUS!! The California wildfires have been very much on Incubus' mind lately. It's been tragic to watch so many homes go up in flames. In San Diego and Orange County there are a number of folks who are left without options as their homes have burned down. To help address this, Incubus made a large donation this week to the Habitat for Humanity in San Diego. myspace.com/makeyourselffoundation
